Essentially the result of the US Air Force saying "Hey wait, maybe we do want to cram a lot of high-tech gadgetry into the F-16 after all." Radar missile capability, lacking in the original 'A' model, is added, but so are additional weight and cost, which somewhat defeats the original purpose of the Fighting Falcon. The F-16C is a formidable fighter, nonetheless, and entered service in 1984. [See also F-16A]
